It’s been consistently tough for Paul Lambert since he arrived at Villa Park, with a section of supporters currently wanting him removed from the hot seat following a disappointing string of results.

Six consecutive defeats have been followed by three draws and the latest of these saw Villa lead at Turf Moor until the last few minutes where Burnley scored an equaliser and nearly went on to win the game.

Lambert insists that it was his team’s best performance for several weeks and bet365’s 16/5 about an away win on Tuesday night looks pretty big against an erratic Eagles side who could be vulnerable.

Joe Cole returning from injury has been a big plus for the Midlands side and Lambert hopes to see plenty more from the former England international.

“He was fantastic, he really was. I knew he would tire but I thought he was outstanding. The great thing about Joe is his enthusiasm for the game, for a guy that’s won everything.

“I think the other guys can take a look at him and try to model themselves on him, that’s for sure.”

Crystal Palace came from behind to draw at Swansea and beat Liverpool in their last home match although the Eagles are by no means reliable on their own patch, having previously lost four of their last five.

James McArthur helped steady the ship at the Liberty Stadium when replacing Dwight Gayle although Marouane Chamakh and Fraizer Campbell are not prolific.
