Costa Rica and Canada will be looking to keep the momentum going when they lock horns on Wednesday
July 11th, 2017
Canada and Costa Rica both had dream starts to their respective CONCACAF Gold Cup campaigns with victory in their opening games, however they need to keep this momentum going in what will be a tough clash for both sides on Wednesday. Marco Urena found the net for Costa Rica against Honduras in the first half of their opening match to secure the points for Oscar Ramirez’s side. Indeed while the Costa Ricans had previously gone six games without a single victory, they head into Wednesday’s match on the back of two consecutive wins.
La Sele have enjoyed relative success in this tournament in the past with a place in the knockout stages in each of their last eight appearances and we envisage them moving closer to a ninth successive appearance in the knockouts by collecting all three points in this midweek affair.
The Canadians have been impressive of late and are certain to make Costa Rica battle hard for any points. They thrashed French Guiana to the tune of 4-2 in their last encounter although were given a scare when their opponents fought their way back from 3-0 down to make the scoreline a more respectable 3-2.
Canada have now gone four matches without defeat and they will be confident of extending this unbeaten run on Wednesday, however this looks set to be a pretty closely-fought encounter and with the sides battling out three draws in their last four matches, we’ll be going for the spoils to be shared in Houston on Wednesday.
