Chelsea v Southampton preview – Blues can start revival
Chelsea will aim to move back in the right direction when they host Southampton on Saturday
October 1st, 2015
Chelsea’s poor start to the season is showing no real signs of ending and despite the gap between themselves and league leaders Manchester United being just eight points, the Blues’ recent form will undoubtedly be a huge concern for the Stamford Bridge faithful.
The reigning champions are sitting in a lowly 14th position with just two victories from their first seven Premier League outings and a defeat in the Champions League to FC Porto will have done nothing to heighten the spirits in the Chelsea dressing room.
The selection policy of manager Jose Mourinho has come under increased scrutiny of late, especially his decision to sit John Terry on the bench with his teammates conceding in all but one of their seven league matches.
For this encounter, Mourinho will still be without the services of Diego Costa with the result that either Falcao or Loic Remy will be handed a start as lone-striker against the Saints on Saturday.
Southampton sit tenth in the Premier League table after an inconsistent start to the season and following a tough game against Manchester United in which they pushed the league leaders all the way before eventually succumbing to a 3-2 defeat prior to despatching Swansea 3-1, they will be confident of grabbing themselves a decent result this weekend.
Indeed, the Saints are starting to display the clinical attacking approach which rewarded them with Europa League football earless in the season, albeit rather briefly.
To be honest, we’re expecting Chelsea’s star-studded side to start finding the right gear sometime soon and despite Southampton’s best efforts on Saturday, we fully expect the hosts to edge their way to three points, although this will undoubtedly will be an extremely closely-fought encounter.
