Chelsea v Schalke betting preview and tips
Jose Mourinho’s team can enjoy an easy win against an off-colour Schalke
September 16th, 2014
While Chelsea have been fast out of the traps this season, recording four straight Premier League victories, Schalke have mustered just one point in the Bundesliga which was surprisingly earned at home to Bayern Munich.
On their travels, the German side have struggled and that looks set to continue at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night, with the Blues heavy favourites to claim victory in this Champions League opener.
Rather than back Chelsea at a prohibitive 1/4, it could instead pay to get even money about Mourinho’s men leading at half-time and full-time, with Diego Costa potentially starting on the bench as the manager looks to give the forward a rest.
Loic Remy showed that he was no slouch by scoring his first Chelsea goal against Swansea, with Willian and Ramires also in line to make an appearance, although the Chelsea boss knows better than to take this game lightly after losing at home to Basel last term.
Mourinho has certainly been happy with Costa’s input to date after the former Atletico Madrid player netted a hat-trick against the Swans.
“He is one of the best strikers at this moment in football,” Mourinho told BBC Sport. “He is a special player.
“The team is an attacking team that creates a lot of chances and spaces for a striker,” said Mourinho.
“The second goal is a brilliant collective action. [Cesc] Fabregas had a fantastic assist and Diego put the ball in the net. Diego is a good player but he is in a good team.”
