Chelsea v PSG betting tips – Blues can turn tie around following first-leg defeat
Chelsea go head-to-head once again with PSG in the Champions League
March 7th, 2016
The Champions League action returns this week and Chelsea welcome PSG to Stamford Bridge in the second-leg of their last sixteen clash on Wednesday evening. Most pundits agree that Chelsea will be underdogs in this match, given that they will face a Paris St Germain outfit which have grown enormously in stature in recent seasons and are runaway French leaders.
The visitors possess world-class talent in abundance, however Chelsea are dab hands at progressing in this competition and will have a vocal Stamford Bridge support behind them. Even more crucially, Guus Hiddink’s men have been enjoying some decent results recently and we feel that their newly-found defensive solidity will help them to shut out their French opponents on Wednesday night.
Indeed, should Chelsea manage a clean-sheet against PSG, then any win of any description would see them progress in the tournament and although many believe that the Blues will struggle to keep the visitors from scoring, it should be remembered that PSG failed to score against Montpellier in their last outing and they have failed to score in two of their previous four Champions League outings away from home.
Gary Cahill will be central to Chelsea’s defence and he has enjoyed some excellent form in recent games, while other key names are starting to return to decent form for the reigning champions with Eden Hazard, Cesc Fabregas, Nemanja Matic and Branislav Ivanovic recently enjoying some of their best spells since the start of the campaign. With the support of the Stamford Bridge crowd, Chelsea can turn this two-legged tie around and the main man could of course be Diego Costa.
The Spaniard’s aggression and tempo will be crucial to the Blues’ approach on Wednesday evening and he represents excellent value at odds of 5/1 with Bet365 to break the deadlock against Paris St Germain.
For the hosts, it will certainly be ‘backs to the wall’ for prolonged periods, however we believe that the Blues can hold firm and keep their Champions League dreams alive with a win on Wedesday evening. Back a Chelsea win-to-nil at 4/1 with Betfred.
