Chelsea stormed to the Premier League title last season, dominating from the start of the campaign right through to the very end. Things couldn’t be more different this term and the Blues’ 3-1 defeat to Everton at the weekend was illustrative of just how far their fortunes have plummeted.

Indeed, with a mere four points from their opening five outings, Chelsea are experiencing their worst start to a season since 1988 and the pressure is mounting on Jose Mourinho who is now just 5/1 to be the next Premier League manager to leave his post, despite his insistence that he can and will turn things round.

“The results are the worst in my career,” Mourinho said following the defeat to Everton. “They are not adapted to my quality, my status, but I am coping well with the situation. I am not feeling pressure. I am the man for the job. I don’t think there is better man who could come and do my job.”

Chelsea can restore some pride and confidence in this midweek European outing by sweeping aside Maccabi Tel Aviv, the Stamford Bridge outfit clear favourites at 1/7. The hosts may have little to inspire confidence of late, although we would expect them to dominate against a Tel Aviv side who are favourites to finish the group firmly at the bottom.

Odds of 1/7 clearly offer no appeal whatsoever, given Chelsea’s performances of late and we’ll be searching elsewhere for some better options. The stand-out bet for us is Chelsea to win-to-nil at odds of 7/10 with BetVictor. The Blues haven’t managed a clean-sheet as yet this term but this will be a great chance for the Blues’ rearguard to grab some confidence before the upcoming Premier League match against Arsenal on Saturday.

Chelsea are also having problems at the other end, Spanish forward Diego Costa managing just one goal so far this season. Can he score against Tel Aviv on Wednesday? We believe so and will be backing him to break the deadlock at  11/4 with Bet365.

Mourinho’s men have suffered a dreadful start to the season but they will be up against a side which are a step down from Premier League quality and if the Blues fail to clinch full points at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, Mourinho may need to hunt out his CV.
