Chelsea v Liverpool tips: Home win for Blues on Friday evening
Chelsea can maintain their perfect home record when they face the Reds at Stamford Bridge

Could Antonio Conte have enjoyed a better start to the season with his new side? Perhaps not although a 2-2 draw with Swansea City was a disappointing result for a side which look genuine title challengers once again this season. Nevertheless we’re of the opinion that they can put this firmly behind them when they welcome Liverpool to Stamford Bridge on Friday evening.
Diego Costa gave Chelsea the lead at the Liberty Stadium last weekend, however a goal from Swansea’s Gylfi Sigurdsson saw the hosts pull level before they took the lead through the efforts of Leroy Roy, a controversial goal given that a clear foul on Chelsea’s Gary Cahill was overlooked by the ref. A further goal from Costa salvaged a point for the Blues but it was looked upon as two points lost by Conte and he was less than impressed by the manner in which the referee cost his side what he believed should have been a win.
“It’s very difficult to talk about the game because we lost two points,” Conte said. “We were leading 1-0 and created a lot of chances to score another goal. We are disappointed because the performance was very good in terms of our intensity and because we played good football. People looking at the second goal can see that the referee made a mistake – but this can happen.”
Liverpool encountered few problems in their clash against Leicester City, the reigning Premier League champions being put to the sword in emphatic fashion with the Reds running riot. Roberto Firminho managed a brace in what was a thoroughly convincing 4-1 victory, however while the Reds will be looking to emulate their ruthless approach on Friday evening, Conte will have a few things of his own up his sleeve and the Reds won’t enjoy the success they enjoyed in their last two trips to the capital when they managed four points in their trips to the Emirates and White Hart Lane.
Nevertheless Liverpool have been banging in the goals this season and with fourteen to their name already we believe that they will find the net at Stamford Bridge, although these will purely be consolatory in what looks set to be another home win for Chelsea on Friday. As such, we should look at a couple of bets here, the first being Over 2.5 goals at odds of 7/10 with Coral and the second being Chelsea to win and both teams to score at 3/1 with Bet365.
Diego Costa is a clear choice when it comes to goalscoring and he is up for grabs at 6/4 with Betfair on the Anytime Goalscorer market, however a far more appealing bet for us is the 20/1 with Unibet for him to be sent off at some point in Friday evening’s match. Costa can be something of a hot-head at times and whilst it wouldn’t be unusual for him to be shown a yellow at some point, the real value is in with him being shown the tunnel by the referee.
