The Champions League returns with a bang on Tuesday evening, both Manchester clubs looking to move closer to the knockout stages.

Manchester City kicked off their European adventures in slow fashion, losing their opening match to Serie A side Juventus. They nevertheless bounced back in excellent fashion with a 2-1 victory against Borussia Dortmund and followed that with another decent 2-1 win over La Liga side Sevilla. Can they continue in a similar vein when they take on the Spanish side at the Etihad on Tuesday evening? We think that they can.
“It was a very close game [against Sevilla], it was very difficult for both teams to create chances,” Man City boss Manuel Pellegrini told reporters. “There was a lot of intensity and it was not easy. It was important to draw level before half-time. We improved in the last 10 minutes and we had the character to win the game at the end.”
With Manuel Pellegrini’s men travelling to Europe, city rivals United will be enjoying home comforts when they welcome Russian side CSKA Moscow to Old Trafford. Their previous European outing saw them trail Moscow away from home, an Anthony Martial strike rescuing a single point for the Red Devils and Van Gaal will demand nothing short of three points when the sides lock horns at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.
“I think we controlled the game [but] I don’t think we played too fast though in ball possession,” the United boss said after the 1-1 stalemate in Russia. “It was too slow in the first half. We improved that in the second half and scored a fantastic goal. We could have won but ‘could have’ doesn’t count in football.”
