Celtic v Manchester City tips: Citizens too strong for Bhoys
It's Battle of Britain time on Wednesday evening as Manchester City head to Celtic Park
September 26th, 2016
Pep Guardiola has enjoyed complete success with Manchester City this season so far, ten wins from ten matches testament to his managerial approach at the Etihad Stadium. With six Premier League wins under their belt, City top the table after six matches and their Champions League campaign started in excellent fashion as they hammered Borussia Monchengladbach 4-0 in their hastily rearranged opener. Can the Citizens make it eleven from eleven when they head not the east end of Glasgow in this midweek clash?
Celtic are also sitting firmly atop their domestic table following their excellent start to the season. They hammered bitter-rivals Rangers 5-1 in the ‘Old Firm’ derby and thrashed Kilmarnock 6-1 in their last outing. As such, they will be brimming with confidence ahead of this Wednesday evening match, although only the most foolhardy or optimistic would back a Hoops win this week.
Celtic were humiliated 7-0 by Barcelona in their opening Champions League group match and we feel that another hammering could be on the cards for the Scottish champions on Wednesday. They are top of their game in Scotland but to be honest the standard is pretty low compared to the major footballing nations and the gulf in class should become apparent pretty quickly here. They may not suffer the thrashing that they got at the Nou Camp, however City should win this with plenty to spare and whilst the hosts should find a way past the City defence, the visitors should enjoy a relatively easy win.
City have only managed a single clean sheet away from the Etihad this season although they are having few problems up front. Similarly the Celtic attack should give the home fans something to cheer and we’ll be backing the hosts to score in an away win on Wednesday.
City will be without the services of De Bruyne, however there is no shortage of talent in the squad and if you’re looking for a goalscorer look no further than Sergio Aguero, the Argentinian enjoying some great form under Guardiola with a hat-trick against Monchengladbach and a brace against Swansea City at the weekend.
