Bosnia Herzegovina v Wales Preview – Welsh will need to wait for their finals berth
Wales' qualification party may be put on hold by Bosnia Herzegovina on Saturday
October 6th, 2015
Wales could have booked their place in next year’s finals when they faced Israel early last month in Cardiff, however the 0-0 stalemate meant that they needed to wait before opening the champagne.
Indeed, it may be that the Israelis could prove the main obstacle to Chris Coleman’s side progressing through to the finals this weekend, given that should they triumph against Cyprus with Wales failing to clinch the required win against Bosnia-Herzegovina, it would still remain possible for Israel to overtake the Group B leaders.
That shouldn’t happen, seeing that Wales face Andorra in their final qualification outing and it would be completely unthinkable that they will fail to clinch the three points against the group minnows, even though they needed 81 minutes to beat them in the reverse fixture after going a goal down.
As such, it is really a matter of when – not if – Wales will qualify for France next year, although we believe that there will be no celebrations this weekend given that Bosnia are starting to get their act together at this late stage of proceedings.
Bosnia failed to triumph in any of their opening four qualifying outings, however they held the Welsh to a goal-less draw in the reverse fixture and are odds-on favourites at 19/20 to win this game, somewhat surprising considering their relative positions in the Group B table coupled with the fact that star-player Gareth Bale should play some part in proceedings on Saturday.
Following some decent Welsh results in their campaign, we’d normally be tempted to back them at a meaty 3/1, however we expect it to be a case of safety first and a single point would supply them with a bigger margin of error should the Andorrans put up more resistance than expected in their final outing.
