Blackburn Rovers v Cardiff City preview and tips
Rovers and Rhodes should start the Championship season in style
August 8th, 2014
We’re excited – are you? The 2014/15 football season has finally arrived, with the Championship campaign kicking off at Ewood Park on Friday night where Blackburn face a Cardiff team who were relegated last season.
Rovers had a great finish to last season, with manager Gary Bowyer hoping that some momentum can be carried into the new campaign, although the Blackburn manager admits that it’s been difficult making the sort of signings that will lead to a promotion charge.
Keeping Jordan Rhodes was a big plus this summer and the former Huddersfield man is set to be a master marksman in the Championship once again, with bet365 offering an eye-catching 11/8 about the Lancashire side winning tonight’s game against a Cardiff side who lost Steven Caulker this summer.
Gary Medel and Jordon Mutch have also left the Cardiff City Stadium, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer having rebuilt the squad by recruiting the likes of Federico Macheda, Adam Le Fondre and Kagisho Dikgacoi.
Cardiff were the winners of the Championship two seasons ago although the jury is out on Solksjaer who could be vulnerable if the Welsh side get off to a poor start and there was little in City’s performances towards the end of their Premier League campaigns to get excited about.
We’re predicting a win for Blackburn tonight, with Rhodes likely to open his account against a team who might be struggling to keep clean sheets considering that the Cardiff manager will continue to play an expansive brand of football that is bound to leave gaps at the back.
