Barcelona were always going to have a hard time playing catch-up on Real Madrid in the race for the Spanish title and so it proved. Real finished the season with a three-point gap between themselves and the Catalans although Barca boss Luis Enrique remains in with a chance of adding more silverware to the already bulging trophy cabinet by steering his side to victory in the final of the Copa del Rey on Saturday evening.

Barca dumped Atletico Madrid out of the tournament at the semi-final stage and they have also disposed of Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad along the way. Indeed Enrique’s side have been enjoying an excellent run of form in which they have won seven of their previous eight competitive matches with one draw thrown-in for good measure. Hardly surprisingly confidence will be sky-high and it is no shock to see the bookmakers making them massive odds-on faves to do the business in 90 minutes this weekend.

Alaves enjoyed an excellent finish to their season with a seven-game unbeaten run lifting them into the top-half of the league table at the close of play. They beat Barcelona 2-1 at the Nou Camp early in the season although the Catalans exacted their revenge with a 6-0 thrashing in their following meeting. We don’t expect such an emphatic win for Barcelona this time around but there is no way that we can go against the Catalans in this cup final.

Lionel Messi should prove hugely influential in this clash, the Argentina finding the net in five of his previous Barca games and with 53 goals to his name this season, we have no reason to believe that he won’t feature on the scoresheet at least a couple of times on Saturday evening.

Our tip: Back Messi to score two or more goals at odds of 13/8 with Bet365
