Austria v Hungary tips – Austrians can open Euro 2016 with a win
Austria qualified in style and should prove to have the beating of the Hungarians
June 13th, 2016
Austria were 8/1 to win their Euro 2016 qualifying group, although Marcel Koller’s side didn’t look back after a 1-1 draw against Sweden, winning nine consecutive games to finish top of the pile.
It was a highly impressive campaign, with Marcel Koller’s team now strongly fancied to go well in this summer’s tournament and they have been handed a winnable opener against a Hungary side who look to be one of the weakest in the competition.
Marc Janko is the sort of striker that a team needs to get important goals, while David Alaba has shone in a Bayern Munich shirt this season and operates in midfield for his country.
Christian Fuchs captains the side after helping Leicester win the league title, with Hungary potentially having their work cut out as a result.
The Hungarians look fairly tame on paper, with the veteran Zoltan Gera one of the few household names in the squad and they overcame Norway in a play-off.
Indeed, Hungary were third in qualifying behind Northern Ireland and Romania which is not a form line which looks particularly strong.
