Australia v Germany Preview & Tips
Germany look set to launch their Confederations Cup campaign with a routine win against Australia, however will there be a shock in store?
June 14th, 2017
Germany have enjoyed an excellent record since being dumped out of last summer’s European Championships by host nation France and with eight wins from their subsequent ten outings, we believe that Joachim’s men will add to this success by winning their opening Confederations Cup clash with the Socceroos on Monday night.
Low’s side are on course to reach the World Cup finals next season and they will feature amongst the favourites to win that competition for the second time running, however they will get a taste of things to come when they head to Russia for the FIFA Confederations Cup this week and there is little reason to believe that they will fail to hit the ground running with victory in their opening fixture.
Germany hammered tiny San Marino to the tune of 7-0 in their latest World Cup qualifier and while Australia will provide stiffer opposition, they won’t be a match for the world champions. The Socceroos enjoyed back-to-back wins over United Arab Emirates and Saudia Arabia but they have been hit and miss of late and this doesn’t bode too well ahead of Monday evening’s match. The Aussies have suffered defeat to Greece and England over the past twelve months or so and they were well and truly hammered by Brazil on Tuesday evening. Germany will likely inflict upon them another heavy defeat and as such there is value to be had in backing the world champions to overcome a handicap of one goal on their way to a win.
29-year-old Sandro Wagner will look to play his part in lifting Germany to a win on Monday, the Hoffenheim forward scoring eleven goals in the Bundesliga last season and scoring a hat-trick in the win over San Marino. We expect him to repay the faith which Low has shown in him by finding the net against the Socceroos.
