Atletico Madrid v Bayern Munich tips – Hosts will avoid defeat on Wednesday
Atletico Madrid will be looking to make home advantage count when they go head-to-head with Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
April 26th, 2016
Atletico weren’t expected to feature at this stage of the Champions League having lost their quarter-final first-leg match to Barcelona. They headed into the second-leg of that round with a 2-1 defeat to overcome, however they managed this at the Vicente Calderon with Antoine Griezmann scoring from the penalty spot with just two minutes left to play.
Diego Simeone was naturally a happy man following the victory, the Atletico boss saying: “Today, once again, we have won a tremendously difficult game — but a very nice one. “We never stopped believing — we worked knowing the situation, knowing what we can do. We were up against very good opponents, with great history and with players who can change a game in any moment. These are moments that will not return. They are unique in football… It was a special day.”
Following this 3-2 aggregate win, Atletico were handed another tough assignment when they were drawn with Bayern Munich in the last four of the competition and with the German outfit closing in on the Bundesliga title, they will clearly be eager to add some more silverware to the trophy cabinet in the form of the Champions League crown.
Bayern made hard work of their aggregate win over Benfica in the quarter-finals, however they are odds-on favourites at 1/2 with BetVictor to qualify for the finals.
Indeed, should Atletico have ambitions of making it to the final, then they really do need to win this home leg ahead of the return visit to Germany. The Bundesliga leaders have been enjoying excellent form again this season with wins in all but one of their fifteen home league games and all five in the Champions League. As such, the Spaniards will be in no doubt as to the importance of Wednesday evening’s match and they can be backed at 21/10 with Bet365 to win the first-leg clash.
Indeed, while Bayern have been very impressive at the Allianz Arena this season, they haven’t been at their best away from home. Four German sides have taken points of the Bundesliga leaders when they have been on their travels and they have failed to win against Juventus, Benfica and Arsenal in their Champions League away days. Bayern may start as 17/10 favourites with William Hill but we’ll be avoiding them in this match and going instead on Atletico to avoid defeat with 888sport going 8/15 on the Double Chance market.
Given his heroics in the quarter-finals and his recent form, we’ll be backing Antoine Griezmann to score at some point on Wednesday evening at odds of 15/8 with BetVictor. With eleven goals in his last fifteen outings across all competitions, we wouldn’t be shocked in the slightest should he succeed in getting his name on the scoresheet in this all-important match.
