Atalanta v Chievo Match Preview
Atalanta have enjoyed an excellent season, however can they sign-off by collecting three points this weekend?
May 25th, 2017
Atalanta enjoyed an excellent 1-1 draw with Inter Milan in a recent outing, certainly not a stand-out result on its own but crucial in lifting Atalanta into European competition for the very first time in 26 seasons. Their place in the Serie A top-five was further secured following a 1-0 win over Empoli and this weekend’s hosts will look to bring the curtain down on 2016/17 by collecting a maximum points haul in front of their home fans on Saturday evening.
Indeed just a single point separates Gian Piero Gasperini’s side and fourth-placed Lazio ahead of the weekend games and a home win could propel Atalanta into the top-four on the final day of the campaign, however do we fancy their chances?
The answer to that question is ‘yes’. The Bergamo side have lost just once in their previous seventeen outings in the league and they haven’t suffered a single defeat at their Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia ground this year – an amazing run by anybody’s standards. They have proven pretty solid at the back with numerous clean sheets in recent games although we don’t expect them to keep at bay a Chievo side which have been having few problems in front of goal of late.
The visitors have been struggling in the lower reaches of Serie A for most of the season and while they have scored in each of their previous five matches and should find the net on Saturday evening, it will prove nothing more than a consolation in what we believe will be a relatively easy three points for the home side.
