Aston Villa v Southampton tips – 15/8 Saints can shut out Villans
Ronald Koeman’s Southampton side boast an impressive defensive record in the Premier League
November 24th, 2014
At the start of the season, it would have been unthinkable to see Southampton odds-on to win at Villa Park, especially with a player exodus from St Mary’s that included Adam Lallana, Luke Shaw and Calum Chambers.
However, Ronald Koeman could not have done a better preliminary job with the Saints as we approach a busy Christmas schedule, with the south coast team landing 25 points from 11 matches played.
It’s a very impressive return although the visitors have won their last five matches and eleven of their last twelve games have also resulted in victory, leading punters to pile in at odds of 4/5 with Coral.
We can probably go one better and back the 15/8 about Southampton claiming a victory without conceding, especially as this is a bet which would have copped in four of the last five matches.
Toby Alderweireld and Ryan Bertrand have joined Jose Fonte and Nathaniel Clyne in providing a rock solid back four in front of Fraser Forster, with the opposition finding the net just five times in the past eleven matches.
Similarly, Aston Villa have mustered just three goals in front of their own fans this season, with the Midlands side sitting just outside the relegation zone after a fast start to the campaign has been followed by a glut of defeats.
A six game losing run was ended with a goalless draw at Upton Park although the bottom line is that this is a team struggling to find the net and we have to get with the visitors tonight.
Southampton win to nil @ 7/4 with Coral
