Aston Villa v Newcastle United tips: More misery for Villa
Villa's winless run won't be coming to an end at Villa Park this weekend
September 22nd, 2016
Championship title favourites Newcastle United stumbled at the start of the season with successive defeats to Fulham and Huddersfield Town, however they subsequently enjoyed a winning run of six games across all competitions, this only coming to an end with a 2-0 home defeat to Wolves last weekend, a side which they defeated by the same scoreline just three days later in the third round of the EFL Cup.
The Magpies will now be looking to inflict another defeat on a West Midlands side when they travel to Villa Park on Saturday evening and close the gap on surprise Championship leaders Huddersfield Town.
Aston Villa finished rock-bottom of the Premier League at the end of the 2015/16 season and they have continued to struggle in the Championship where they currently sit on eight points after their opening eight league games. With just one win to their name since the start of the current campaign, they lack the cutting edge necessary to kill off games from winning positions, despite a wealth of talent up-front which was acquired during the summer transfer window.
Looking at recent form one must favour the visitors to edge this match although the Magpies won’t enjoy the dominance that they have enjoyed in recent outing, Villa Park being a difficult place to get a decent result at this level. Nevertheless, Villa lack creativity and they will struggle with Newcastle’s supremacy in most areas, therefore we have no hesitation in backing a win for the Magpies and more agony for the long-suffering home fans.
