Aston Villa v Leeds United tips: Another three points for resurgent Villa
Can the Villans make it three on the bounce on Thursday evening?
December 28th, 2016
Aston Villa’s drop from the Premier League at the end of last season was a surprise to no-one although many expected them to make a better job of their Championship campaign in 2016/17. The Villans managed just a single win in their first twelve league games in the second tier and sit mid-table in what has thus far been a very tight division.
The two automatic promotion spots are likely to be taken by Newcastle United and Brighton, however the chasing pack are much more difficult to predict with a mere nine points separating eleventh-placed Birmingham City and Reading in third place.
The Villans appear to have found their feet of late however with a 1-0 defeat to Leeds United at the start of the month being followed by a decent spell in which nine points have been taken from their last four Championship games. Can they avenge for their defeat to Leeds at Elland Road or will the Yorkshire outfit do the double over their West Midlands counterparts this week? The bookies feel that it will be the former with William Hill going 11/10 on an Aston Villa win and we share this confidence.
Villa haven’t been at their best away from Villa Park but they have been impressive on home turf with wins in all of their last five home matches. Steve Bruce’s side are unbeaten at home since the start of the campaign and we believe that they can extend this impressive record on Thursday evening.
Leeds United are sitting in a play-off place as things stand and they will be in high spirits following their Boxing Day victory over Preston North End at Deepdale. Garry Monk’s side have been decent enough away from home although their only victory on the road against a team in the top half of the table was against Sheffield Wednesday and whilst they may be heading into Thursday’s match on the back of a three-match winning run, we’re of the opinion that they will fall back down to earth at Villa Park this week.
