The Gunners supporters have been pretty vocal in their frustration towards manager Arsene Wenger since the start of the season. A failure to land any noteworthy signings during the summer months was hard enough to take, however an opening-day home defeat to Liverpool added to the fans’ anger and Wenger found himself under even more pressure.
The response was pretty swift and following the arrival at the Emirates Stadium of £52million of new talent in the form of Valencia’s Shkodran Mustafa (£35million) and Deportivo La Coruna’s Lucas Perez (£17million), an air of optimism pervades at Arsenal once again. Is this optimism misplaced? We shall find out when Southampton come to town on Saturday afternoon.
The Gunners followed their Liverpool defeat with a dour draw against reigning Premier League champions Leicester City, however better was to follow with a 3-1 win at Watford’s Vicarage Road, this result leaving the Gunners languishing mid-table.
Does this hint of better things to come? Perhaps it does. Either way, we believe that there will be little fuss in the manner of Arsenal’s win over Southampton this weekend. The Saints put up little resistance at Old Trafford last month when losing 2-0 to Manchester United and their home games against Sunderland and Watford returned just a point from each. All of this points very much towards a home win-to-nil and that is exactly what we’ll be backing.
