Arsenal v Reading tips: No EFL Cup upset for Gunners tonight
Back the Gunners to proceed with relative ease in the EFL Cup tonight
October 25th, 2016
Arsenal were dumped out of the 2015/16 League Cup by Sheffield Wednesday however we don’t for a second envisage any similar giant-killing acts this evening when Championship side Reading make the journey to the Emirates Stadium in the same competition.
The Gunners sent Nottingham Forest packing in the last round courtesy of a 4-0 win at the City Ground with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Granit Xhaka and Lucas Perez providing the visitors’ goals in what was a somewhat makeshift side. Wenger will field another makeshift team for tonight’s match, mindful that his side are fighting on three fronts with Champions League and Premier League success understandably given higher priority.
Can tonight’s makeshift Gunners side find a way past the Championship visitors however? Arsenal supporters will be anxious to avoid a repeat of the last meeting between these sides when Reading stormed into a 4-0 lead with just 37 minutes gone, only for the Gunners to fight back and force extra-time where they ultimately won 7-5. Although a twelve-goal thriller is pretty unlikely, we’re nevertheless hopeful of a thrilling end-to-end affair tonight.
Reading reached this stage of the tournament courtesy of their wins over Plymouth, MK Dons and Brighton although they are struggling with inconsistency at the moment and won’t be in the highest of spirits. Indeed, this has all the makings of a routine win for the home side and that’s exactly what we’ll be backing tonight.
