Arsenal v Reading tips: Gunners to avoid upset on Tuesday
A routine win awaits the Gunners in the EFL Cup on Tuesday evening
October 24th, 2016
Arsenal were dumped out of last season’s League Cup by lower-league Sheffield Wednesday and manager Arsene Wenger will be looking to avoid a similar fate in this midweek clash with Championship side Reading. The Gunners dealt with second-tier outfit Nottingham Forest in emphatic fashion by knocking them out of the competition in the last round courtesy of a 4-0 hammering at the City Ground, goals coming from Lucas Perez, Granit Xhaka and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain.
Wenger fielded a makeshift starting eleven for that encounter and he will likely adopt a similar strategy on Tuesday evening, mindful of his obligations in both the Premier League and Champions League.
Can this makeshift team make it past Reading and into the last eight of the EFL Cup? Indeed it can and the Gunners fans will be desperate to avoid a repeat of the 2012 meeting between the sides when Arsenal had to fight their way back after going 4-0 down within 37 minutes, only to win 7-5 after extra-time. We’re of the opinion that we won’t be seeing a similar scenario in this midweek encounter.
Reading edged past Plymouth Argyle, MK Dons and Brighton on their way to this clash with Arsenal, however the side aren’t enjoying the best of form at present and they will struggle against high-flying Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. A routine home win looks to be the order of the day with the Royals failing to find the back of the net.
