Arsenal v Manchester City betting tips – Big guns will fight for second place
A clash of the big guns will see second place up for grabs tonight
December 21st, 2015
The Christmas number one is still a big deal in the music industry and numerous acts fight it out for the coveted position year on year. Things are little different in the Premier League, although this year’s pole position is in the hands of a surprise package.
Let’s face it, who would’ve expected Leicester City to be sitting top of the table at this stage of the season? We certainly didn’t and whoever wins tonight’s clash at the Emirates – if indeed there is a winner – will still be sitting at least two points behind the shock league leaders.
The Foxes will be hoping very much for a draw tonight between their main title opponents, such an outcome leaving four points between the top four places. We’re not so sure that this will prove to be the case and a tough clash will likely see a winner this evening, the question clearly being, who will it be?
Arsenal have been enjoying a decent spell following their dismal 1-1 draw with struggling Norwich City late last month. They have clinched three successive wins, beating Sunderland, Aston Villa and perhaps more importantly Olympiakos to the tune of 3-0, the latter result sending them through to the last sixteen of the Champions League.
They finished the group stage of this competition in second place behind Bayern Munich and have been handed a very tough draw for the knockout stage in the form of Barcelona. Nevertheless, should they bow out to the reigning European champions as expected, they can at least put all of their effort into the Premier League and hopefully close the gap on Leicester City. Indeed, with Chelsea out of the running and both Manchester clubs struggling to keep the pace, this could be the Gunners’ year. Not forgetting the Leicester threat of course.
Manchester City will be a little happier with their Champions League draw with Dynamo Kiev their opponents in the last sixteen clash. This certainly won’t be an easy fixture, however Manuel Pellegrini’s men will be confident of making it to the quarter-finals at least.
Domestically, City squeezed past Swansea City last weekend to keep the pressure on Arsenal who sit a single point above them in the Premier League table. They have won all of their last five home games, however have fared less well away from the Etihad with no wins in any of their last four away outings and no goals scored in their last three. Bet365 go 21/10 for a Manchester City win.
This is a very difficult match to predict and indeed could go either way, however City’s struggles on the road over the past few weeks will give the Gunners the edge. A number one spot at Christmas would have been a mouthwatering prospect, however that is now unachievable and second place looks to be Arsenal’s for the taking.
