Aberdeen have been perennial runners-up in the race for the Scottish Premiership title over recent seasons, however now that Rangers have returned to the top-flight things look set to change. Indeed Aberdeen have fallen behind the Gears thanks to some dismal results in recent weeks.

Aberdeen went down 2-1 to Rangers a couple of weeks ago and whilst they responded with an impressive 5-1 thrashing of Kilmarnock, they came back to earth with a bump at the weekend when St Johnstone left Pittodrie with a point for their troubles.

This failure to make it two on the bounce left Aberdeen trailing the top two in the table and they will be desperate to seal the three points when Motherwell make the journey north on Tuesday evening.

Can Aberdeen put their recent woes behind them and close the gap on Rangers in this midweek clash? We’re of the opinion that they can and despite the Dons being forced to share the spoils at the weekend, it is hard to make a strong case for a Motherwell outfit which have failed to win any of their last three outings and who have secured a mere three Premiership victories since their opening-day win over Kilmarnock.

Tuesday evening’s visitors are pretty dreadful away from the comforts of Fir Park with just five points from their seven away games. Their goal tally on the road has been equally dire with just five scored during that time and they will surely struggle against a Dons side which have managed a number of clean sheets at home. As such we have little problem with going for an Aberdeen win with a clean sheet thrown in for good measure.

Our tip: Back Aberdeen to win-to-nil at odds of 31/20 with BetVictor
